Just a bit about me

First of all, if you're a backer, thank you. Launching a kickstarter is kind of scary and it's nice to see people who believe in you.

A comment on Twitter triggered some memories for me that I thought I'd share. It's a bit biographical and a explains why Lords of Eternity exists. If you want to see the conversation on Twitter, it's here.

It's clearly inspired by He-Man, although doesn't touch a bit of the the intellectual property.

He-Man came out in 1983. I was...young, thoroughly in their target market. Even at the bottom edge of it. This was really the beginning of making cartoons specifically and explicitly to advertise toys. And it worked.

I didn't have a lot of the toys. I had He-Man, Man-E-Faces, Mekaneck, and some knockoffs. Took years to get those. But, I was a problem-solver. Or a weird kid.

Coloring books were cheap. I had a bunch of those. But coloring? Not for me. I cut out every character from every book and put them all in an ancient suitcase. I'd drag that suitcase to the dining room and take over the table. That was my Eternia.  2D characters spread across the room, adventures everywhere. I spent hours, days, weeks playing that way. Even looped my friends in.

So, not quite 20 years later, I had a kid and He-Man had a remake. I got done with work, picked him up, then we watched every episode together. He was 3 or so. Close to the same age I was for the originals. We got him a kitten that year, he named it Battlecat. Slept with that cat every night for 15 years.

Last year, I got into game-making and had to make this one. He-Man has been there for me forever. Heroics, morality, nonviolent violence. It was a great influence on my childhood and I wanted something like it in my adulthood.

And that's the story of my love of He-Man. So, I launched a kickstarter to bring Lords of Eternity to print because I also love books and want this on my shelf and your shelf. It's a chance to share something I love with everyone.
